So It Begins

Finally starting to have a minor freak-out. I’m less than a month away from the posting date of my space_wrapped story, and I’m only satisfied with two out of ten chapters!

):

This is wrong, so wrong. I’m usually done, at minimum, a month in advance and impatiently counting down the days until I can post! What happened?

All I can think of right now is my brain is tired, my job is endless, and why have I only taken one day of vacation the entire year? Stupid, klmeri, stupid. How are you ever going to reach 1.25 million words at this rate?

Then I have to ask myself: Why did you let the muse tempt you into writing, and then keep repeatedly giving in as the characters floundered from one mess after another? Did you seriously dedicate 300,000 words to one AU? Who does that?

I don’t think I’ve made bad life choices, you guys, but when I’m this drained it certainly feels like it. To make a long story short, I need someone to write my space_wrapped story or either give me a swift kick in the ass so I’ll finish it.

I don’t know about swift kick in the ass, but I have a wooden spoon that I have no qualms about using given the right circumstances. I’m not familiar with space_wrapped so I don’t know what advice to give except just keep at it, unless it due tomorrow, then you might have problem. I wish you luck though and I will look forward to what you come out with. *edit* so I can’t spell for beans.

LOL, I can spell a word one day but not the next. space_wrapped is a holiday fic challenge run by Jim/Bones fans. Members submit prompts which then get chosen. Fics are to be posted throughout the month of December. It’s rather fun. This is my third year participating. The first year I did a prompt about baker!Bones, then a fairy tale prompt the following year, and now one that I’m turning into a mystery. I may need you to use that spoon soon. :) I’ll let you know!

Good to know that it’s not just me with the spelling… That does sound like fun. I may have to join in next year if I don’t participate in the Kirk/Spock Advent again. Or I may lose my mind and do both. Who knows! I will have my spoon at the ready, so you just give a holla and I’ll be there.

I am not a member of JimandBones but I went there and saw the prompt you picked. It’s a good one. Is there a word minimum count? I’m asking because maybe you are overwhelmed by making it 10 chapters. Can it be shorter? I am not sure by your post if you are saying you have already written 10 chapters and are only happy with two, or if you’ve only completed two chapters. Is this story serious, funny, friendship, slash, sad, sexy? I only ask because sometimes funny stories can bog a writer down after awhile if they go on too long. Angsty stories, or h/c where real problems, big or small, have to be solved or at least talked about can pull a writer in and keep them going until it’s solved. Either way, you should be having fun with this. It should not feel like drudge work. I know you promised this story on this prompt, but you should write whatever you want to write furiously and inspired and if it doesn’t exactly follow the prompt, who cares? I am not making any assumptions, though, that you don’t like your prompt, only suggesting…meaning what I’m really trying to do is inspire you. But I don’t know if I’m succeeding. Oh well.

There actually is no word minimum. My minimum is set at 20k, which is fairly easy to reach. The reason I divided it into ten chapters is because of how I outlined the story. They won’t be too long in chapter, with the exception of the first one that’s already written and nearly polished. :) It was going to be funny but you know how that usually ends up – especially when there is a very interesting mystery going on in the background! I’m already deviating from the prompt; that doesn’t bother me. I simply have yet to find all of the words I want to say. They’re eluding me. I appreciate practical advice, so please feel free to advise! It always helps to know how other writers conquer their writer’s block.

If there is a way for me to help you please let me know. Is this the pike/kirk/christmas eve jail story? I’m a beginner when it comes to putting a whole story together myself but I do okay when it comes to ideas that might help you move your story along. Don’t get down on yourself. Sometimes stuff just becomes a bit much. There certainly isn’t a word count police. If you need to take longer I’m sure everyone will understand. After the holidays people have a long spell of nothing going on, so a new fic to read is a treat. Seriously, just ask me if you need anything. I’m more than willing to put some time in and work with you. I’m quite flexible with my schedule.

haven’t been here in aaages and just saw your post. not going to hand out kicks in the butt (great metaphor, i’m sure), but just cheer-lead you. your writing so far has brought me much fun and joy, i am sure it’ll sort itself. can’t speak english today, but hope you know what i mean anyway :D as for holidays, a couple of years ago i had 30 days of A/L on 1st october. given that we only got 25 days a year, this was extra-interesting. my then project-manager said that this was ridic and i should take off some time already, because there was never a good time for it anyway. so i pass on her sage advice to you :) good luck with it all!

there was never a good time for it anyway So true, so true. The end of the year especially is not a good time for it. I predict I will taking work home with me for the Christmas holiday. :/ It’s good to hear from you, and thank you for the support! Cheerleading always raises my spirits.
