ST Comic (Spoilers)

Date:

I was reading the Star Trek Ongoing comic series being published by IDW as part of the hype/propaganda/background-story for STXII. In case you haven’t heard, the series encompasses Rebooted episodes of TOS. #1 and #2 follow the Gary Mitchell arc (“Where No Man Has Gone Before”), and I was moved by the last two pages of #2. They spoke to me of a hard lesson a young James T. Kirk has to learn, becoming a starship captain straight out of the Academy. I am enclosing them behind the cut for spoiler purposes.

DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS FOR REBOOT ‘VERSE!

#3 and #4 follow the Galileo incident (“The Galileo Seven”) and believe it or not Yeoman Rand is included in the shuttle party (her hair style is marginally better and not so stacked…). So we can definitely be expecting her as part of this ‘verse, y’all!

I just wanted to say that I’m so glad that you posted this because I was starting to worry that I’m the only one who knows about the awesomeness of these comics… Good to know I’m not alone! =) And I’m really hoping that all of the fantastic authors of these fandom will read them sooner or later and include them in their fics, because I think there are great parts to play around with.

There is definitely material to expand upon in the comics. What if someone had had to stay planetside in #4? I would say the only part I disagree with is Uhura stealing the shuttlecraft.Uhura’s character didn’t branch out quite like that so early in the series – not really until the movies. But that isn’t what bothers me… it is the lack of repercussions, despite the act being a serious violation of regulations. Kirk, in my opinion, should not have handwaved it off, though it is something his Reboot character might do.
