What if Edith Keeler wasn’t a pacifist at heart; instead she was fated to watch this poor innocent man she had been caring for die in front of her eyes which made her realize life was too short and unpredictable and spurred her to join up during the WWII efforts and somehow she was vital in preventing Germany from winning the war. And when Kirk and Spock learn of this, they think they just need to find McCoy and stay out of the events about to happen.
But it’s Leonard whom Edith found and cared for, and it’s Leonard who is fated to die.
