I want to thank everyone who submitted their ideas – I loved them all! There were 11 prompts altogether, and I added a few of my own to bring the total up to 15. Keep in mind as you read over the prompts that the story I produce from the prompt might not have a strict focus on Jim and Bones’ relationship but I don’t plan to leave you wanting with their interactions. :D

1. Rivals-to-lovers McKirk Academy fic. Because this ship is the quintessential friends-to-lovers pairing (in AOS anyway), and so turning that trope on its head would be interesting. I’m not quite sure how that rivalry would come about though, maybe their shuttle meeting goes badly or they don’t end up insta-friends but then compete in a class? Spock’s class? They could of course bond on Christmas (together, and with Spock) upon realizing they’re some of the few sad saps hanging around on campus during the holiday.

2. Pre-McKirk: Jim and Bones during shore leave in December 3 years into the 5 year mission. Bones invites Jim with him to visit Joanna. Jim says no, goes to Iowa. Spock overhears since conversation happens on the bridge. Joanna hears about a carnival in Iowa and wants to go. Spock hears of a research conference in Iowa, goes not knowing Jim is there. Jim has family problems and wants to confess to Bones. Bones thinks about Jim and wants to confess. Jim, Bones, Spock collide at carnival.

3. Established McKirk: Jim and Bones have a couple days along a nice colony planet. Spock does research upon the planets mountain region. Holiday season and it starts to snow. Jim and Bones argue about Jim being injured on missions. Spock thinks about Bones and Jim concerning their injuries on missions. Blizzard happens. Spock packed smart, runs into cave one side, blocked. Jim and Bones run in other side, blocked. They find each other, talk with comfort, Jim and Bones thank Spock.

4. Pre-McKirk: Bones and Jim switch bodies during shore leave on a grassy plains planet. Go running through the field searching for a gold and blue flower which they ingest to get their bodies back. Spock doesn’t know they switched bodies. They find out about each other through Spock and interactions. Spock delicately holds the flower in a pot on a hill. Bone and Jim meet up the opposite sides of hill to Spock. They confess in front of Spock. Ingest raw – run onto the sunset. drag Spock.

5. Established McKirk: Age regression into kid and land on Vulcan. Until beamed aboard got to Vulcan school. Meet young Spock. Spock age regressed as well, unknown if they know or if they are young. Spock gets bullied. Bones/Jim kick ass. Bones/Jim/Spock find out about each other childhood. Spock supports them. Do comfort/feels as kid. Beamed back aboard. Jim and Bones hug it out/intimate touches. Spock brings a flower pot with vulcan flower. Jim and Bones celebrate. Spock is confused.

6. Established McKirk: It’s a wonderful life – everyone forgets Spock. Bones and Jim live boring/happy – remember what is supposed to be and are confused and sad. When Spock appears they run to him – Spock looks around saddened. Bones and Jim argue about what they might have done to him and the situation. They talk to one another. Q is a nice jerk. Bones and Jim comfort Spock/patch themselves together. They later have a romantic meal near a beach. See Spock walking alone. Both to Spock.

7. Jim and Bones are separated for the holidays because of ship’s business. Maybe Bones is on Earth, and Jim is not. They try to pretend they are okay but the separation is not easy for either of them.

8. A story where Kirk or Bones is a prince, and the other two (McCoy and Spock, or Kirk and Spock) as well as any other character(s) are sent as potential suitors to the prince, and must spend a year with him, after which the prince will choose who he’ll marry. I think it’d be best if it’s NOT an old earth-type kingdom that the prince rules- space is WAAAY more romantic.

9. Jim is winter-crazy and Leonard is winter-lazy. They’ve been getting along just fine at the Academy until they both spend the holidays in each other’s company for the first time.

10. Ooh, I want a story where Jim or Leonard is a Vulcan!

11. Jim is a doctor, and McCoy’s the captain. To the crew, sometimes it seems like they’ve picked the wrong paths, but between the two of them, and (their trusty Vulcan), everything always works out.

12. Spock of Vulcan, who lost his mother very early on, and had a severely Vulcan upbringing, has decided to join the Vulcan Science Academy, instead of Starfleet. He’s always curious about the mother he doesn’t remember, though. In ‘A Christmas Carol’ fashion, his mother’s Katra shows him past, present, and future Christmases, and two strange humans, who will someday mean the world to him.

13. Spock and McCoy reminisce on Christmas Eve, about the Late Jim Kirk, their closest friend (maybe more than that). And on a day like Yuletide, when the veil between the worlds grows thin, Jim Kirk sneaks out to see them. For just one last Christmas.

14. McCoy is a department store Santa, and not a very good one. To make matters worse, some snot-nosed adult starts coming through the Santa line and trying to sit on his lap.

15. Established McKirk (I had to condense the original prompt to fit, sorry!): Jim and Bones are happy together but there can be tension during the times that they don’t see eye-to-eye as CMO and Captain. Jim may feel that Bones does not trust him completely. Then on an away mission Bones is insubordinate towards Jim, and Jim places him under house arrest and reduces him to Second Medical Officer, making M’Benga CMO. He doesn’t give Bones a chance to talk to him. Bones is devastated. The situation snowballs (with regulations forcing Bones to move out of Jim’s quarters and crewmen reacting negatively) until Bones leaves sickbay to M’Benga and Christine and is rarely seen outside of his rooms. With Christmas time is coming up, Bones is desperately unhappy and missing his family in Georgia, while Jim hurts and longs for Bones. But when Jim learns that Bones has requested a transfer off Enterprise, it may be too late to save their relationship.

Wow, y’all – a three-way tie! How exciting!

I tossed a coin between 11 and 14 – 14 won. I tossed it again between 14 and 15 – and 14 won again! The ST gods have spoken!
