Jim awakens with a sense of foreboding. The house is silent, oddly subdued like the night after a hunt, when some of the town occupants wake up wondering who among their friends are still around and others don’t wake up at all.

Jim dreams in fragments. Two dark-haired men, one with ears ending in delicate points, occupy a couch together, talking in the pre-dawn hours of the morning. After, the human paces an invisible track around the room, a cell phone to his ear. When one call ends, he immediately begins another. Elsewhere the elfin man cuts a solitary figure on the balcony, eyes closed, face uplifted to a starry sky.

This year I wrote and posted:
10 stories for an approximate total of 135,000 words. I’d feel concern for that, but I knowingly wrote less in order to participate more in the fandom. How you ask? By spending an entire month designing a website dedicated to Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. So yeah. Less words but more commitment. Go figure!

Moor’s ambition started small. At the cusp of young adulthood, he was taken onto a mid-size ship that had once been a planetary patrol cruiser and made to work as one of the nameless crewmen (engine brats, they were called, before he banned the name) for the majority of each solar cycle.

“Psst.”
From the single bed and beneath a blanket, there comes a mutter of something like go away, but the voice near the covered man’s ear is insistent. “Psst,” it hisses.
Jim yanks down the blanket with a snarl. “What now? I don’t need another shot!”

The commanding officer of the Revenant cuts a regal figure with one booted foot propped against the balcony’s railing and his right hand resting on the pommel of an old-fashioned pistol. His cape and long coat are gone, displaying a sleeveless waistcoat and a black cravat knotted around a high-collared silk shirt. Beneath thick brows, his dark eyes gleam with calculation, belying an outward appearance of bored tolerance. He has many titles: the Master of Trappers, Commandant of the Bloodfury, and Clan Lord, the revered Mortifier himself. The title which suits him best can change on a whim.
