Naturally, there always comes the regrouping after the completion of another WIP. The fact that I have closed the books on two WIPs nearly at the same time (specifically, Forget Me Not and the J ‘N B Series) made me wonder just what I’ve been spending my time creating…
Luckily, I have this crazy old category chart to go by. Is it any surprise that my poor brain would want to stick the “data” into Excel and make a graph? It shouldn’t be. LOL.
To clarify the categories:
Category | Description |
---|---|
(pre-) K/S/M | Main romantic pairing is established or eventual Kirk/Spock/McCoy |
(pre-) K/M | Main romantic pairing is established or eventual Kirk/McCoy |
No Pairing | Plot of fic is not concerned with romantic pairings – considered the “general” genre |
AOS | Based in fandom of Alternate Original Series, AKA the Reboot/STXI Star Trek |
TOS | Based in fandom of The Original Series of Star Trek |
Crossover | Fic is a “merger” of two different fandoms (one of which is non-Star Trek). Usually crossover-ed with Doom or Supernatural |
Angst | Plot to make you cry; possible character death |
Humor | Plot (or no plot) to make you laugh; possible crack!fic |
Mirrorverse | Uses “mirror” universe concept first shown in TOS episode “Mirror, Mirror” |
AU | Alternate Universe – refers to “world” setting vastly different than a deviation of Starfleet operating in space. Ex. Spock is an art thief being chased by police officer Kirk and P.I. McCoy! XD |
Sequel | Fic is sequel to another fic on list |
Multi-chaptered | Fic is written in multiple parts (or chapters) |
Total number of ST fics: 105 (counting each drabble series as one fic, regardless of size)
The next thing I asked myself, of course, being who I am was…
Percentage which is Kirk/Spock/McCoy fics: 42.8%
In conclusion, why do I feel like I’m always writing K/S/M and yet have only managed 45 bonafide stories of my favorite OT3? It must be because I write even more fics which skirt that slashy line – but could easily be accepted as fluffy friendship?
*facepalm*
I have quantified my obsession. Should I be worried that I find myself not obsessed enough?
Thoughts are welcome!

I don’t think you should be worried at all. I have a more abstract manner of thinking, so although I do love to analyze motives behind actions,I do it in a different manner. So no, I wouldn’t make a chart..but I believe that sometimes you can’t quantify creativity. Your muse guides you and where ever it takes you…it is like following the yellow brick road..lol Enjoy your gift of writing and don’t worry about things too much…I believe in free will…so yes, possibly there is some unknown motivation behind where your muse takes you, but enjoy the ride..and see where it takes you…and lucky us we get to ride along with you…
It’s just interesting to see what is the result of these three years of writing. Obviously it started out as K/S/M but I ended up doing other things I did not predict – like Pike/Archer and kid!fic and a crossover between Doom and STXI. I think you’re right – it is more about where the muse goes, because inevitably I must follow.
Well maybe I need to examine my “obsession” with the Wizard of Oz…this is not the first time I have made this analogy with regards to my replies to comments on your site.. Hmm…interesting..lol
Maybe you should! I don’t think I’ve read a Wizard of Oz/Star Trek crossover before. I bet there’s a lot of meaning you could put in there. :)
There can never be enough KSM.
Truer words never spoken.
for totally selfish reasons i’d say you should not worry at all :) i love your K/Ms, so the more attention you dedicate to those two, the better in my book ;D also, very impressed by your bar graph, and trying to draw motivation to do some work from it…
I will admit I have been thinking about doing another story from The Holiday Waywards ‘verse with daddy!Pike and K/M. I haven’t yet managed to put the dialogue to paper though.
YES!! THIS!!!! *does happy-dance* *tries to restrain self from re-reading the Waywards right now and thus going to work on only about 5hrs sleep. again*
