I am a little freaked out… okay, that’s a lie. I am A LOT freaked out right now. Having just watched episode 12, I have no idea how badly the writers are going to screw up the battle of Camlann.
We get old Merlin coming out of the crystal cave. Now, all that big talk about Merlin being a son of the earth, the embodiment of magic, and all of these lyrical little phrases… then Balinor says in the light Merlin’s true self will be revealed.
ONLY DRAGOON COMES OUT OF THE CAVE!
Whut?
It’s not that I don’t have respect for old!Merlin, his grumbling and his power. I just don’t want to see him on the battlefield. Then again, I know by many of the legends I’ve read that Merlin is much older than Arthur when that fateful day of battle arrives.
I just want to see the writers do something slightly different with it. In fact, I heartily approved of the Merlin-talking-to-Arthur-through-dreams that we saw earlier. Now, damn it, let’s pull out all of the showstoppers and GO FOR IT, GUYS!
I mean, last episode.
Who the heck is going to want something practical at this point?
PS – I was really disappointed they are pushing the reveal until the very last episode of the series. Would have been much better to let the angsty aftermath carry us into a triumphant victory at Camlann.
Just my two cents, here. :)
