The VERY, VERY End of Merlin

Date:

6

I will be watching the final episode of BBC’s Merlin tonight, and…

I’m not ready for this.

D:

*needs tissues*

ETA: I used all the tissues and then had to go find more. I don’t know whether to applaud BBC or curse them for wringing these tears from me!

I on purpose haven’t watched the last few episodes, due partly to lack of time and lack of being able to find them, but mainly because I was ticked off to discover the reveal still hadn’t happened, and because I’m very afraid of how it will end. :( *mutual support hugs*

You aren’t the only one who is afraid, KCS. I’ve got a blanket ready on stand by, in case I need to throw it over my head so I don’t have to watch if things get bad. Mainly because once the show starts, I won’t be able to stop it until the very end, no matter how much my heart breaks in the meantime. I’ve already decided I won’t post spoilers about this last episode. Happy or sad, I am going to let time smooth out any initial reactions. I had to do the same for one of my beloved book series, when the author ended it in a way that upset me. *deep breath* *hugs back* Here I go!

On your recommendation, I did watch it, and while I hadn’t planned to spend my Christmas Eve bawling my eyes out over characters that don’t even actually exist in real life (!) I do agree with you that it was well worth watching. Merlin and Arthur were beautiful especially there at the end, and the reveal and Arthur’s reactions were actually extremely close to what I had assumed would happen (with the obvious exception that I hadn’t anticipated them actually killing him that young), so that made me happy as well. If they had to do it, they did it with beautiful finesse, which makes me wonder how on earth they crafted such a slipshod series to lead us up to a beautiful finale. *shakes head, and fists, at writers* I reiterate that I feel gypped not because of the finale, but because of the lame series buildup to it. (I’m also ticked off that they killed Gwaine, more because I feel that was totally unnecessary than anything else!) But you were right, it was beautifully done, and true to the legends, which is in the end the most important thing to those of us who love them from years gone by. *salutes* Now, back to sobbing at my iPad screen and rewatching the last ten minutes…

I honestly expected them to end it the way that they did; that or they were going to give it a happy ending with them all gathered in the Great Hall and leave it as a springboard for the movie trilogy. The ending itself doesn’t bother me, it’s everything else that does. Merlin and Arthur were beautiful at the end of the episode, but the rest was so sloppily rushed, it was just appalling. We got gypped!

Merlin and Arthur were beautiful at the end of the episode My thoughts exactly. I was really pleased about this. The rest was rushed. They’d left almost no time to finish up the legend as it should have been done. ETA: But it still didn’t ruin it for me.
