STXII – Alice Eve

Date:

10

SPOILER ALERT!

I was cruising past IMDb and typed in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Alice Eve is playing Dr. Carol Marcus, not Elizabeth Dehner?

When I initially saw the teaser trailer, my first thought was that it was Carol. Then I looked at her again, ignoring the way Kirk grinned at her – flirting obviously, and decided if Cumberbatch’s character is Gary Mitchell, then she must be Dehner.

Now, since it’s listed that she is Carol… Could it mean we are wrong about Gary Mitchell? IDK. Thoughts?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure he’s not Gary Mitchell. *sigh* I would have loved that storyline, but it’s okay. It’s just not likely they would have met in the ‘verse. There’s more info (warning SPOILERS) here

I saw the name John Harrison floating around and thought that might be an alias or something for Cumberbatch’s villain. Damn it. So Kirk’s going to lose the Captain’s chair because he fishes Spock out of a volcano? That’s how I am interpreting one of the sentences in the linked article… ETA: Pretty sure Kirk’s character has always been about bending the rules. IDK. :( How many months until May?

You didn’t know? Have you seen the name that’s listed for Benedict Cumberbatch’s character? I’m leaning towards him being a mix of more than one character, if I’m honest. JJ Abrams and his team have already proved that they can make a decent original villain; I liked Nero well enough. So it wouldn’t surprise me if this actually is a new one too. It also wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of the things we’ve seen and that people are chirping about are just red herrings. Alice Eve’s character was a dead ringer in terms of looks for being Dehner. But, she’s been confirmed to actually be Marcus. Based on that, how sure can we be that the gesture across the glass with Spock and someone else in the trailer really is a death scene? And how can we be sure that those pods that two people are walking away from in the same trailer really are cryogenesis life pods? Yeah, I don’t trust the man as far as I can throw him; he likes his secrets and has thrown us off many times. He did it before the first film came out too, for God’s sake! Nor do I trust the actors, especially after all of the trolling Simon Pegg does on Twitter and that Karl Urban did at that convention.

I seriously live under a rock sometimes, it seems. Aha, I did see how they labeled Benedict’s character. I scoffed. They don’t even need the “rumored” to know it’s a ridiculous idea! If this truly is an original villain, I trust JJ to make him interesting. Like you said, Nero was. Mostly. Until he destroyed Vulcan. Then he was just really, really f-ing insane! I don’t know if it’s a death scene. At this point I am leaning towards possible death scene (but not for Spock) or just really emotional will-you-come-back-alive scene. I expect Kirk to do something wacky and miraculous, not to mention life-endangering, to defeat this villain.

Rumoured? His character’s name was confirmed as being John Harrison. Though, whether that is just an alias or not remains to be seen; John is a really common name; ‘John Doe’ anyone? Yeah, I even sorta understood the crazy reasoning behind destroying Vulcan. It was then going on to destroying the Federation that I didn’t get. Ah well, as you say, he was insane. There was nothing that made sense about what he was doing by the end. “FIRE EVERYTHING!” Yeah. Unless something has happened that means a really clean death, Spock’s shirt looked a little too pristine in the trailer for him to be dying. Haha. I like the idea of a “emotional will-you-come-back-alive scene” though. He wouldn’t be Kirk if he didn’t do something wacky, no matter what incarnation he’s in! ;)

On IMDb, it says Khan (rumored). That, I scoffed at. John Harrison, on the other hand, does sound like a plain, give-nothing-away alias JJ would come up with! Nero’s motivation was at least comprehensible on some level – but that doesn’t mean it made sense to do it. Then again, I don’t believe I could ever understand why a person, no matter how grieved, would destroy an entire race of beings in vengeance. That’s “illogical” reasoning if I ever heard it! And, yes, the Federation attack was overkill.

Gawd, they’re not still going on about it being Kahn are they? Geez… the man was of North Indian ancestry. I know Cumberbatch is extremely talented and looks quite exotic with his high cheekbones and pale skin… but never would he be able to portray an Indian Sikh. JJ put a lot of effort into the casting of the first film, he wouldn’t go through all of that just to be lazy if he ever did make the decision to try and redo Kahn.

I just really don’t know what’s wrong with people. Is it because Khan is one of the more well-known villains of Star Trek? I’m not quite certain how many tried and true Trekkers believed it could be Khan to begin with, but I hope that number is small. Cumberbatch himself wouldn’t want to play Khan, I would think!

Welp, barring any unfortunate surprises, I’ll join you in superior, cackling laughter in just over 5 months time when we’re proven right. ;P

When I found out about that, I was very afraid they’d go the route of Khan (John Harrison sounds so much like a placeholder it’s almost funny). But apparently both Simon Pegg and JJ have both denied its Khan. I’m just wondering how much of TWOK they intend to work in; besides Carol Marcus and the scene with the glass, there have been spoilers that some of the movie takes place in Klingon territory. I personally hope Harrison is a combination of characters rather than a straight copy of any of them.
