Okay, this may seem crazy, but I have done some analysis of my Star Trek stories, trying to determine which areas I write in too often and which seldom see a story. I have even gone so far as to plot out a time-series that shows how long each story took to complete, where the one-shots occured between the gaps, and their word counts, individually and culminatively. In short, I have gone crazy.
Some observations:
1. On average, a multi-chaptered story will be 25,500 words.
2. On average, a one-shot will be 2,200 words.
3. I will write three to six one-shots in between multi-chaptered stories (of length at least 25,000 words), which can total in word count from 15,000 to 25,000.
4. The average number of days between chapter posts is 6 days.
5. My longest WIP took nearly 3/4th of a year to write, averaging one chapter every two weeks, but my longest story to date took only three months and had an average posting time of 4 days.
6. I have written the same number of pairing stories as I have non-pairing stories. If it is a pairing story, it is 59% more likely to be K/S/M and 79% more likely to be AOS. If it is a non-pairing story, there is an equal chance it could be either AOS or TOS but 64% chance that it will be a one-shot.
7. I don’t write Kirk/McCoy by itself in the TOS ‘verse. I guess it has to be McSpirk!
8. In the beginning, it took 30 stories to reach 200,000 words but another 30 stories later, and I had written twice that amount. Scarily enough, 30 stories after that, the word count had tripled – which is why, I think, I reached 1,000,000 words in just two years of writing.
9. As for popularity, here is a break-down:
