Usually I’m not one to say “I got something you don’t got!” but I have to tell everyone about this fantastic experience. :)
I rarely indulge in anything expensive except food. Unfortunately, I’ve been feeling so stressed from work – with the job and then the job offer I’ve decided to take – that I did something crazy. I bought myself a 46″ Samsung LED television.
XD
Why am I telling y’all this? Simple.
I popped in the blue-ray disc of Star Trek XI and WHAM!
It’s so damn real, it’s unnerving! With the size of tv, I might as well have Bones standing in front of me talking and IT WOULDN’T BE THAT DIFFERENT!
I mean, you literally feel you are in space or Bones is snarking in the shuttle next to you. Needless to say, I squee-ed so loudly I think I could have startled a flock of birds ten blocks away. :)
The closest I can come to describing this experience is that it’s like watching a play with excellent, high-def eyesight. There seems to be no barrier between you and the action. I already loved STXI to pieces and now it’s a thousand times better – which I didn’t think could happen.
If you don’t have something similar, go to your local electronics store, demand that they play STXI on blue ray on the BIGGEST LED THEY HAVE. I guarantee you’ll convert more people to the fandom this way. Who can resist a Pine and Urban that looks so freaking touchable?
Oh God. I have to watch that again just to oogle Karl’s gorgeous face.
PS: This 46″ is now also my PC monitor. I’m insane, I know. :P
PSS: I’ve decided that I have to purchase blue-ray LOTR as well. Of course, when the army of orcs come barreling, I might have to run and hide in fear that they’ll jump out of the damn tv screen. Scenery is so realistic on a LED. Who needs an actual vacation?

*snugs* I need a new TV for the living room and I decided to put one on my Amazon wish list for when I can afford it a few weeks ago. I had already decided that I was buying a Blu Ray player this next weekend and the LotR trilogy is the first thing I was to get for it. Star Trek XI is also right up there!
I used to say that blu-ray was just another way to waste money… you know, re-buying movies you already have on DVD. My mind is changing now that I have an awesome system to augment the blu-ray movies. Also blu-ray players usually do a fantastic job of increasing the quality of regular DVD. Suffice to say, if I buy a movie in the future, it will be on blu-ray. It’s probably a good thing that I am not an avid collector. :) I definitely recommend saving your money for a great tv. It will be something that you can use for years to come and still be satisfied. Poor? Who, us? Ahaha. Yeah, pretty much. XD
Oh god that sounds epic. I got a large screened monitor too but nothing that good. Hnnnnnng do want.
It is better than epic. :D I’m very satisfied.
Good, I’m glad. You took the job then? Yay source of income. Just don’t let it drown ya. Which the tv will help with.
We have a 46″ inch LCD and I absolutely LOVE watching Star Trek on blu-ray (not to mention all the fabulous special features)! I saw the LoTR trilogy on blue-ray and was wondering about them. But I have the mega extended editions and I didn’t see it say those were the extended editions. Still tempted because I am SUCH an LoTR addict, but if they’re not, I shall wait. I already have two copies of the DVD versions. It is a wonderful thing to treat yourself with for all the hard work (and you’re not insane on the monitor thing — we often use ours for the same).
Oh God, I just got home from shopping (I know, right, what’s my problem?) and realized that I put 46′ instead of 46″. *fail* Not that it wouldn’t be pretty damn
awesomecrazy to have a 46 foot tv… I have the LOTR mega extended editions too. I am definitely going to be searching for something like the extended on blu-ray. It would totally be worth the money. I was playing the regular version on the tv this morning and the blu-ray player made it pretty good quality. Then the LED gave it that life-like feel and… I can seriously say that if the blu-ray version is better, I’m going to have to sit on the floor to prevent dizzy spells. :D PS I LOVE YOUR ICON!
